Zoetrope Animation Set

Here you can see the miniature landscape, set and some of the hundreds of miniatures and models for this commercial build. We had a under two weeks to plan and build everything... it was an insane amount of work but once again, the best crew. I spent 8 hours alone carving in the lemon textures on the hundreds of slices used. I casted almost 40 actually lemons for the sizes needed then calculated the precise angle of cuts to give us the right timing for the movements.
As the discs spin the figures around the edges, hanging from the bottoms and suspended on rods line up so everything animates just like an actual Zoetrope. The camera flies around showing closeups and following a pseudo- storyline thanks to motion control (since we have multiple discs that have to be switched out to extend the movements past the 18 frames each disc is set up for. I wait with baited breath to see the finished footage... hopefully soon
